My Counselling Approach

With individual clients, I primarily draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), helping you explore what matters most to you, identify what may be getting in the way, and find ways to move toward your values even in the presence of obstacles. Mindfulness and acceptance are important parts of this approach, and I may also incorporate somatic techniques when you are feeling stuck. In couples and relationship counselling, I draw more heavily from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help identify the patterns that can leave partners feeling disconnected, and I incorporate Gottman Method tools to help strengthen communication, connection, and understanding between partners. Depending on your needs, I may also integrate Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS/parts work), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I welcome your feedback throughout the process, as counselling is not one-size-fits-all and often benefits from being tailored to each person’s needs, including the needs of neurodivergent clients.

About Me

Growing up, I struggled with inattentiveness and hyperactivity, but the way in which those presented was not easily identifiable as ADHD at that time. It was not until undergraduate school that I received this diagnosis and started on a long journey of learning what works best for me, as well as rewriting narratives of what I originally thought were deficits, as differences. Later on this path, I also realized that the heightened sensitivity I have to sound, textures, overstimulation, and demands are characteristics of a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) and demand avoidance (or PDA profile).

These experiences and characteristics influence a deep passion to help others who struggle with self-acceptance and advocating for their needs, which can be common amongst us neurodivergents as we live in a society that often promotes “masking” and “camouflaging” of our neurodivergence. My hope is that our work together fosters within you a deeper appreciation of your uniqueness, increased knowledge of your support needs, and ways you can incorporate that on your journey.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my partner and two cats, playing LOZ video games, exploring nature, “easy-grow” gardening, photography, connecting with friends, “easy-button” cooking/baking, thrifting, and listening to audiobooks.
