Frequently Asked Questions

  • Certainly. My education has provided me with the knowledge to support a wide variety of mental health presentations. I would highly suggest first booking the free, 15-minute consult with me, where you can ask questions and we can determine if we would be a good client-counsellor fit.

  • At this time, I offer online sessions but plan to be offering limited walk and talk sessions in the future, weather permitting, either in West Vancouver or North Vancouver. Days, times, and exact locations are to be determined.

  • What you share with me is confidential, with a few exceptions:

    • If I believe that you are at imminent risk of suicide, I may ethically need to break confidentiality to ensure your safety. Before breaking confidentiality, I will attempt to work with you in creating a plan to keep you safe. If we are unable to do this, it will be my ethical duty to break confidentiality to keep you safe from attempting or completing suicide.

    • If you tell me that you have a plan to seriously injure or kill another person(s), I am legally required to break confidentiality, both informing the police and the person(s) you intend to seriously injure or kill of your plan.

    • If you tell me of a child or vulnerable adult that is being abused or neglected, I am legally required to break confidentiality, reporting this to the child protection and or adult protection authorities as well as taking steps to protect the child and or vulnerable adult.

    • I may be required to disclose your confidential information if that disclosure is for the purpose of complying with a subpoena, warrant or order issued or made by a court, person, or body with jurisdiction to compel the production of personal information, or the disclosure is otherwise required or authorised by law. If possible, I will ask you for written consent and inform you of anything I disclose.

    • If you request my coordinating care with another provider, I will request a signed release of information from you and inform you of what information will be shared.

    • If you will be using a third party to pay for any portion of your sessions, note that information will be shared with them for purposes related to billing such as name, date of birth, insurance policy numbers or group numbers, my name, my business name, my registration organization and member number, session length, cost per session, and proof of counselling service. In some cases, certain insurance providers may require clinical details but I will request confirmation from you first before sharing those details.

    • Payment processing with non-cash forms of payment (such as the required credit card) may result in limited information being shared for purposes of billing.

    • Non-payment of services past 60 days of the scheduled session may result in limited information being shared with collections for purposes of billing.

  • I am awaiting registration and until then, I may not be covered by your insurance and encourage you checking with your insurance provider. Check back soon for updates on my registration!

  • Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged the full session fee to the card they have on file.  This policy is in place because that time has been reserved specifically for you and cannot usually be filled on short notice.

  • No, it is out of my scope as a counsellor to diagnose mental health conditions. If seeking diagnosis would be helpful for you, checking in with your general practitioner is often the first step in either getting a diagnosis, or getting a referral to someone else who is able to make diagnoses, such as a psychiatrist, psychologist, or a registered clinical social worker.

  • You can either reach out to me through the contact form on the Contact tab, email me directly at _______, or directly schedule a free, 15-minute consult meeting where we can determine if we would be a good client-counsellor fit.
